Group meetings – Air BNB growing as a quality option for business travel

Air BNB, already a respected company with a satisfied customer base for vacation rentals, is making a splash into business meeting accommodations.

What Travelers Want

Back in 2016, the head of hospitality and strategy for Air BNB hosted a conversation regarding traveler preferences. He noted how the desires of travelers have shifted away from high-end accommodations and more towards “experiences”.

Air BNB Business Model

The Air BNB business model already lends itself to this change in preferences. However, there is still the practicality issue due to the large-scale needs of business professionals. Meeting planners have more options at hotels, but Air BNB is creating tools to help with the booking process. Additionally, where hotel blocks are sold out, Air BNB is a practical alternative.

In 2014, Air BNB integrated with Concur TripLink to allow those already using their service to “book Air BNB listings directly”. This resulted in increasing Air BNB’s visibility significantly. In addition, Air BNB started to market itself to business travelers through embedded listings and in the packets provided at events. Also, Air BNB bought the vacation home rental company, Luxury Retreats, increasing group meeting locations significantly.

Air BNB for Meeting Planners

More meeting planning companies are starting to take advantage of the lower rates and personalized experience that Air BNB offers. Air BNB is still not a major player in the world of business travel, but as the culture and desire for “experience” continues to grow, Air BNB is becoming a solution for conference attendees.
